Antony Bream

"Bream [is] sustained in his obsession with time-honoured methods and authentic materials. This is revealed in his 'premier coup' technique, an ability to secure a direct interpretation of the image onto the canvas without labouring over meretricious effects. It goes without saying that the camera plays no part in this process."

James Knox, The Art Newspaper

Born into an immensely talented family (his brother is the world-famous virtuoso classical guitarist, the late Julian Bream), Antony Bream toyed with becoming a violinist and then a barrister before pursuing his gift for art. Trained at the Royal Academy Schools in 1964, Bream was launched in the West End at the Fine Art Society in the '70s and never looked back.
